FAQs

  • What is Pilates?

Pilates is based on Contrology developed by Joseph Pilates. By combining movement patterns, breath, and the deepest abdominal muscles he created a series of exercises. These exercises strengthen, stretch, and bring elasticity, mobility, & flexibility to the spine and all muscles of the core to create symmetry and balance in the body. Joe Pilates also invented specific equipment like the magic circle, reformer, Cadillac and chair to challenge or assist students in finding their healthiest self.

  • How often should I do Pilates to see results?

The answer is up to you, but here are some tips for getting the most out of Pilates:

    • Be consistent. Make Pilates a regular part of your schedule and stick to it.
    • Listen to your body: concentrate on your workout and be present.
    • Prioritize your diet and mental health: holding in stress can make it harder to lose weight.
    • Focus on quality: Pilates is about connecting your mind and body to strengthen and elongate your muscles.
  • How do I prepare for my first class?

Wear grip socks, bring a water bottle, and be sure to tell your teacher if you have any limitations set by your doctor. If you have never taken Pilates and are new to exercising, a private session is recommended.

  • How do your classes vary?

We keep our classes interesting! Our teachers found Pilates at different times in their lives for varying reasons, so you will see both classical repertoire and contemporary applications, modifications and props.  Keeping the classes varied, accessible, challenging, athletic, safe & most importantly FUN, is something we pride ourselves on. No matter how long you have been doing Pilates, you will continue to learn something new at Blue Heron Pilates.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

We have a 12-hour cancellation policy for all classes.  Since our classes only have 4 people, that makes space limited, this policy is strictly enforced.  If you have a class package and cancel after that window, or no show, your class credit will be forfeited.
